I currently run an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 7500 in my workstation. Perfectly servicable card for work, given that all of my work these days is web-app development with SVG being the most demanding graphics I do. But it doesn't have any of the newer OpenGL features that need to be wrapped for PyOpenGL (or OpenGL-ctypes).
Looking around, it seems that the best I can do is a GeForce 6600 GT (AGP, it's an old motherboard) or a GeForce 6200 AGP if I can find one. They have both vertex and shader version 3.0, which should cover the bulk of the features we want (assuming Direct-X support is approximately reflective of OpenGL support). The 6200 is so much more reasonably priced I'd much prefer to get one of those, it's just that the store I normally shop at doesn't have the AGP version of it.
Suppose I'll have to track down the Linux compatability on the cards before I make a purchase. Then I'll have to put together $250 to do the actual purchase... sheesh, you can buy 1/2 of a cheap computer for that price!
