PyGTA is next Tuesday (Come see the wonder that is Cinemon!)

Ian reminded me today that PyGTA is coming up next week. I'm going to load up the Cinemon demo and do a very brief walkthrough of it. Since we're now out of the "stealth" phase, we can really talk about it for the first time.

Today was mostly taken up with meetings. Didn't really have ...

Rosey starts blogging... (While I spend my day on system administration and minor bug-fixing)

Rosey (my little sister) has started up a blog (no entries yet, however), mostly to track her progress learning French in Quebec this summer.

I spent the day getting a Cinemon server ready for a client. Mostly just getting the (old) server updated to newest code, testing for start-on-boot operation, eliminating all of the source ...

Gentoo moving to Python 2.4 causes a bit of annoyance (Dependency changes, but the packages don't realise it...)

I told Gentoo to update my system today, thinking I'd see if the KDE compilation failures had been fixed. I missed Python 2.4.1 in the list of dependencies to be built (there were dozens and dozens of them). So, though the KDE compile still failed, Gentoo had already updated Python to 2.4.1, which broke pretty ...

Mental exercise is fun (Paper design for scaling up Cinemon)

I've been working on the algorithms for scaling up Cinemon to work for large systems (half a million subscribers or so) on and off. Today I decided to work on the overall architecture, rather than the nitty-gritty details of how communications will work among the federated servers.

The actual "how" of it is something I'll ...

Little bit of work to round out the day (Still tired from the trip, but trying to keep a normal-ish schedule...)

Did a few hours work on Cinemon this evening. Nothing spectacular, just some project management and fixing a longstanding bug with the restart-on-reboot operation.

Shane went nuts while I was away. He gave me two bottles of apple butter, 3 pounds of coffee, and a huge gift bag packed solid with high-end chocolate of various ...

Conference goes remarkably well (Response to Cinemon is far better than even I'd hoped...)

I'm back from the SCTE conference. I was there to "launch" Cinemon for the greater population of Cable operators (a.k.a. MSOs). Response was almost universally positive, lots of interest in the product from everyone for whom I did the "dog and pony show".

Quite a few effusively positive comments ("Sure, we have monitoring systems, but ...

Bit a 'GL-ing to relax... (Autogenerating the bulk of the OpenGL.GL wrapper now)

Another few hours on OpenGL-with-ctypes. Basically got it to auto-generate the wrappers for the bulk of the GL library. There's still quite a few "exceptions", but there's nothing that actually distinguishes those from the other cases, so I'm likely going to have to write the wrappers for those manually. About the only other major cases ...

Gack! (Enough, the week is finished!)

I think I'm done for the week. Leaving for the conference Monday morning (oh, shoot, need to get the tickets and such worked out). I need to stop obsessing about this program for a few days or I'm going to be nuts at the conference. I'll have all of Monday and Tuesday to obsess.

But ...

Seem to be caught in a reality loop... (Day limps to a close again)

Again started the day dealing with booting issues, then spent the rest of the day on sales issues. This time up in Aurora. I only slept 4 or 5 hours last night, so I'm a bit knackered at the moment.

By the time I got back to Toronto I was back in one of those ...

Day limps into the final stretch (Broken and battered, with little to show...)

Spent the first part of the day dealing with reboot issues, then got to slog into the wonderful world of the marketing materials. Amazing just how much time I'm burning on these things. Today's task was primarily getting the single-page handout finished, which included some significant text editing, updating the web-site, and then spending a ...
