Well, I really wasn't in the mood to work on the main project last night (just too keyed up from the 4 or 5 coffees at the management meeting), so I did some housecleaning (the computer kind) and then sat down to try to optimise PySNMP some more.

This package is starting to get a little frustrating. There's no real hot-spots, just a huge amount of extremely generic code that's creating huge numbers of fairly heavy objects with extremely large numbers of function calls. The result is that for every couple of percent of gain I have to do hours of work.
