If the man telling you to commit suicide isn't dead (Why would you trust him?)

Just wondering. It seems pretty stupid to believe someone who says all good little believers should arise and kill themselves who is not themselves dead. I actually have problems with following the ones who have offed themselves (and others), but at a minimum I demand death from my death-cult leaders.

I don't care if you're running a Muslim, Christian or Jewish cult. If you don't have the conviction to die (and die first!) for the "cause" you teach, you're just selling moonshine to the gullible, cynically manipulating them into giving up what you are too craven to abandon to serve your own ends.

Maybe, just maybe, applying this principle would stop the jerks from running these scams in the first place... if not, at least they should die out fairly soon.

Can't disagree, on grounds that the example is worth more than the loud-speaker.
Your post made me think of the 'Survivor' by Chuck Palahniuk. I wondered if they ascribed to your suggestions, and think they did.
/funny that J.C. was the Word and the life...submitted to death after praying we would have life to the fullest.
