Gentoo is dead for the moment (And that darn Tim is a horrible influence on me...)

Snaking.
Tim came over (mostly to play with his laptop), so I decided to play with Gentoo while he was over. In doing so, I compiled a new kernel and copied it to my boot drive... which was suddenly full!
Turns out that reiserfs by default allocates 8000 blocks for its log. The drive is only 10,000 blocks long, so the 7 or 8 megabytes of data was entirely filling the rest of the space. In trying to resize the log we wound up trashing the boot drive to the point where we decided it would be better to just reformat with ext2 (no logging) and copy the backups onto the new drive. After doing that and re-installing grub, however, we're still not able to boot Gentoo :( .
So, for now, the entire Gentoo environment is dead, and the whole evening was basically a waste (and worse, a waste wasted while sitting in front of a computer).

Blog, glorious blog.

I can't consider that an improvement until I actually *notice* a change. So far 0.6 and 0.7 seem almost identical.

Fully agree.. 2007.0 is not working on most systems... portage seems broken now with noob devs around. Gentoo is Officially dead.

Um, that wasn't my assertion. My assertion was that my install from June 2004 was dead. I've been using it for 3 years since then. Haven't tried a 2007.0 install yet (though it seems to work fine as a livecd).

Gentoo is dead indeed. Most good devs left gentoo a while ago, they cannot keep up with the packages and most of all, they are confused.

Paludis (horrible portage replacement), Daniel leaving again (they lost big time there) and 2007.0 being a facade not installing on 70% of the machines in this world.
