You can hear the world
Screaming quietly

Who Will Remember My Sister's Name

I lie upon the deck
In my island paradise
Clean green treetops
Contrast pristine skies
Clear turquoise water
Laps at white sanded dunes
Birds sing to each other
Their lazy summer tunes
I see that Iâm in heaven
When all this I behold
As I bathe in the sunâs rays
That turn warm skin to gold

Yet I know that this same sun
Burns down upon scorched land
Where my sister holds her baby
In her weak withered hands
Numbered with the masses
Of those starving by the score
The innocent victims
Of drought, disease and war
Living in grave yards
Where life is of no worth
And the names of the living
Have been erased from off the earth

What hope does she have
To know rest without cause
To indulge in my leisure
To sit upon my shores
To share in food a plenty
That hangs abundantly from trees
Or drink from mineral creeks
Flowing to the seas
Imprisoned by this guilt
That turns my paradise to hell
When I point finger at bureaucracy
As conscience screams âIt starts with selfâ
