Fido doesn't have a single S60 phone!?

So much for getting a Python-programmable phone.  Fido has only S40 phones AFAICS.  Rogers has reasonable S60 phones, but they're $300 *with* the multi-year contract and then have to add a rather expensive plan.  I've got something like $90 in "Fido Dollars" (a measure of how much I've been suckered so far), so I can buy the best phone they've got with a contract (other than iPhone/Blackberry), but they haven't got anything Python-programmable in the normal phone selection.

Looks like I'll just pick up the nicest phone they've got (Nokia 6301) and look at programmable handset some time in the future.

I was in the exact same situation some months ago looking for a S60 phone with wireless and voip support to use on fido's network.

What I did is buy a Nokia E51 on-line for some 350 CAD, at this price it's new and unlocked so no multi-year contract and a really great phone.

    Hope it helps.

I got my iPhone from Fido with my Fido dollars and have been hacking Python on the phone. You need to jailbreak it mind you but its trivially done these days....

I'm not really into the iPhone thing. I know, I know, probably the best market out there, but something in me goes "meh" about it. The fact that Apple is b****ing and moaning that jail-breaking is "illegal" is pretty off-putting too.

I may wind up doing the E75 or E71 or E51 in the future, but I think for now I'll just get the 6301 and take my $12/month "discount" for signing up for 2 years and call it sufficient.

    Hmm, very cognitive post.
Is this theme good unough for the Digg?

I'd think there would be more involved explorations of the issue than my little screed. Don't know that my (free) host would appreciate getting digg-dotted either :) .
