Teaching is Exhilarating

Someone asked me this morning if I'd really be willing to up-roots and move to another country to teach in a university.  This evening I would definitely say yes.  There's something so attractive about taking a block of knowledge and organizing it so that other people can understand it.

Anyway, have been working on the presentation for PyCon on profiling.  Rather having fun.

You're absolutely right, Mike. The fact that I get a buzz from teaching is largely the reason why I've stuck with it for so many years, rather than succumbing to the temptation of a more lucrative job in industry.

A secondary reason is that, in an academic setting, you often have more freedom to explore the use of different tools and technologies than you would in a commercial environment.

It's not so much the tools/techs that interest me, as the freedom in projects, the chance to explore wholly new areas. I get reasonable latitude in choosing tools with my clients (normally), but when the task is "build yet another accounting/invoicing system"... well, the tools are only so much fun :) .
