It appears I really will get to try out the OLPC laptop as a primary working machine! Though I suppose that practically I will have to buy a new full-size laptop at some point (why does a new battery or power adapter cost 50% of the cost of a new laptop, btw?)
Anyway, suppose that's ...!-->!-->

We had our engagement party on Saturday evening, something remotely like a traditional Albanian one, just the two families getting together to get to know each other. Quiet little thing at which I asked Soni to marry me. She said yes :) .
There is now a great deal of chocolate in the house. Soni ...!-->!-->

Delays and more delays... (Plane and network...)

Tuxedo,
Vindaloo.
The plane wound up about 2:45 hours delayed in total (laptop didn't even last 5 minutes on its battery). More frustrating, when I finally got here and sat down to work I couldn't get wpa_supplicant to log into the pycon network. It always wanted to choose the stupid hotel access point and even when I ...

Have to be up by 5am tomorrow to get to the subway by 6am and from there the airport by 7am. I think I'm packed, so off to sleep I go. See some of you in Dallas!

Got the missing cable from Canada Computers today to get the SATA drive installed in the workstation. One of the ATA drives started giving DMA failures last week and this was to be the replacement drive. Problem is the silly thing doesn't work.
Well, more precisely, it doesn't seem to work with the motherboard in ...!-->!-->

Genti (he spells it that way, regardless of what Soni says) came over last night and we played AoE II all evening (until 02:40) then got up early and played a few more games before we (Soni and I) headed over to visit with Gram's friend Margaret. Sad news during the visit, Jack (another of ...

Dropped into visit the kids (Soni's nephew and niece) this afternoon. Was hoping we'd be able to play Age of Empires II (Gent is learning it), but their dad was sleeping in the room with the computer. Discussed physics, cosmology and a few other things with them, then rounded out the visit with chocolate and ...

Dad has a great post up from a few days ago.
Whiskered warrior
No, say defender
Facing dark forces
On unkempt walls
Holding off demons
With soft words
Of hard wisdom
As the day fades
Fighting darkness
With each word
Hoping light
Will carry on
Without him
That his battle
Will help someone

I'm pretty close to blissing out... experimental music in huge doses is just the way to start the day. It's strange, but I almost feel like I'm growing as a person as I'm clearing out the backlog of email. Maybe it's just remembering the growth of working on the thesis, but whatever the reason it ...
