Rumi graces candlelit evenings
Soft and gentle mystic love
Petrarch forms great swaths of words
To soft to give to waiting doves

I crack the knitted fabric
With crusty crude cold air
Animal lust crudest love
Tearing fabric laying bare

I probably should have held my tongue
Let quiet passion's sway
Inspire the genteel crowd ...

Faced with unceasing noise
Listen
They want to talk
Absorb
Their words that flow forever
Float
Angst, anger and emotion
Feel
They need no more chatter
Wait
They will find their fates
Hope
They will come back home

Cut Crystal


Cut crystal chalices
Have less perfect form
Hold no stronger wine
Scatter light less perfectly
Attract mens' eyes less frequently
Than these flawless lips
Wrapped round honeyed tones
Spiced with foreign deserts
Laced with thoughts of home
Forming a quiet pool of hope
From which my heart would drink
But which my mind forfends

I got a last-minute invite from Michelle to go to Aleck's poetry evening. Was all people I know, save for two friends of Aleck. Hadn't seen Golnar or Shadie in ages, it's even been a while for Kathryn.

Anyway, turns out the evening wasn't really about reading one's own poetry, it was more about reading ...
