Had another one of those moments, you know the ones; you are starting to run out of tickets in the project and realise that 2 or 3 of them are actually the same basic problem that you've been avoiding for a few months because it doesn't seem to have an elegant solution.

You back off for a few minutes, thinking maybe something beautiful will have shown up to solve the problem. No, it's still ugly. So you get out a truly crude, unthinkably blunt object and just pound on the problem. Within a few minutes you have a working, but nails-on-chalkboard, solution.

Sometimes the problem really is ugly.

Because it lets you solve the problem right now.
