Vacant Demons

Why do you keep me waking
When I would be abed
Leave me vacant demons
Full of puzzles full of cares
I would sleep when I lie there

Those I Love

Soon I will lose those I love
For they are merely mortal
Mortal life however long
Is bounded in hard measure
They will pass as I know shall I
Possibly before they know
That they are those I love

Eyes at Midnight

I looked into eyes at midnight
Black and sparkling in the light
In the smiling face of a gentle heart
Open to all and granting each a part
The angels savoured that high moment

Yet I was troubled as we stood
I think had I stood longer
I would have had to cry
Remembering this ...

Very full day... (Yay!)

This is the kind of day I live for. Good day at work (continuing training), then the PyGTA meeting (SQLObject presentation might have been better if I'd been using it for months and months, but oh well), then out for drinks after PyGTA, then chatting out on the street with Seneca and Stephan afterward, then ...

Am I becoming a sleep addict? (Return of dreams makes it so attractive...)

Don't know why, but the past week I've been waking up every night multiple times from vivid, (and weird (read symbolic)), dreams. I like dreaming, particularly when I can feel the subconscious grinding over a problem. A sort of pleasurable symbolic calculus that's constantly solving itself in pictures... The problem is that dreaming requires sleeping, ...

The best kind of parties (Deep conversations deep into the night...)

Trying to wind down from the party @ Sacha's this evening (got home an hour ago). It was exactly the kind of dinner party I love, lots of banter and wit over dinner with a healthy dose of philosophy, psychology and social commentary to round out the evening. Great cheesecake is a significant plus too. ...

I can see clearly now (The squinting's gone...)

The difference between Rose's little 17" CRT and the 20" LCD is... striking. Heck, even compared to the old, failing 21" CRT (which was really good in its time) it's a joy. Colours have good range. Quality is good enough that the PVR output actually looks pretty bad (can see the compression artefacts); basically I ...

Replacing the fried monitor (Rose's little monitor doesn't cut it for all-day working...)

After being cursed one evening (not by me, I was hoping to get another 6 months out of it) my monitor refused to turn on the next morning. It was a nice $1600 Sony G500, now quite old, and beginning to fail in multiple ways (and, honestly, becoming quite hard on the eyes). Anyway, need ...

Fried Mikey (Don't put on jeans and go for long walks when you're sun-fried)

Went out to Woodbine beaches on Saturday. Spent the whole afternoon out in the sun and wound up lobster-red across my whole front (including my feet) and back. Walked down to Sacha's barbecue when we got home. The jeans I wore down rubbed the sunburn into a nasty glowing red patch.

Also went to Sacha's ...
