Display MythTV recording status in system tray (Quicky script just in case someone wants it...)

Wrote a simple script that uses wxPython to create a system-tray icon which displays whether you are currently recording anything on the local MythTV back-end (playing live TV also counts as recording).
When the /dev/video* devices are in use, the icon shows red, when not, it shows black. Mouse-over shows the number of active recording ...!-->!-->
Ironic that post had the real answer within it (I should *read* now...)

Began by editing the play-in-design paper. Realised that it's too dense still. It needs to lead the reader in far more slowly than it does. So decided instead to write a quick piece about Modernism, and what about it was successful and useful (as well as what didn't tend to work).
That went well enough, ...!-->!-->
I should write now (But I feel like sleeping instead)

Switched over to the development branch today for testing. Went fairly well, just a few bugs that crept up due to differences between the test framework and the real system. Pretty good considering it's an entirely new CMTS and Modem type being added to the system.
I should take an hour or two to write. ...!-->!-->

Thus it happens when you're in the habit of thinking out loud and working out your feelings in public. You wind up deeply offending the people you care about. To that friend, I'm sorry. As requested, I've dropped your name from the blog, I've also dropped some posts, though I've merely anonymised those on which ...
Oops, wrong on the tax due date (Are due in 2.5 hours, not 26.5)

Likely not too many people using my blog as the official source for Canadian tax deadlines, but just in case... smarten up people!
No, it really was that subtle (Moreso than I'd thought...)

Turns out the device-view bug was one of those situations where procedural thinking and event-driven thinking were being applied separately and resulting in a collision.
(More detail than anyone cares about...)
Modems go out and find their identity, then send a message telling the rest of the world about their identity. CMTSs ask each modem ...!-->!-->!-->!-->
Happy that the taxes are simpler? (Or depressed that my investment income totalled less than $100 for a year!)

Took a quick trip up to the bank between helping D'Arcy and starting Cinemon work today. Taxes are due tomorrow evening in Canada, and I'd not been able to find any T5 (investment income) slips from the banks with which I do business.
So, I trundled over and asked them to print out some T5s ...!-->!-->

Visited grams today (final score 3:2 for me). Then came home and did a few hours of work on the ctypes wrapping, mostly focussing on the auto-generation half of the equation. Then out to coffee with Shane and Brendan. Always fun talking with them, Brendan's doing his doctorate in history, so always has interesting things ...

Today began work in earnest on creating a PyOpenGL implementation with ctypes. This is basically a matter of figuring out how to make the API look like the old SWIG API without introducing too much overhead, either in run-time processing, or development effort.
So far it's going well. There are only about 5 or 6 ...!-->!-->
Garn that was a long day (Booting into Windows seemed to make it so...)

Had to test a fix from while I was in ZZZ on Windows. Booted up and installed both a Firefox + SVG build and Adobe SVG, then started testing. Rather more silly little bugs had crept in than I was expecting. Especially poor results with the Firefox + SVG build... it really doesn't look likely ...
