Ctypes experiments start well (Characterising the problems...)

Today began work in earnest on creating a PyOpenGL implementation with ctypes. This is basically a matter of figuring out how to make the API look like the old SWIG API without introducing too much overhead, either in run-time processing, or development effort.

So far it's going well. There are only about 5 or 6 ...

Garn that was a long day (Booting into Windows seemed to make it so...)

Had to test a fix from while I was in ZZZ on Windows. Booted up and installed both a Firefox + SVG build and Adobe SVG, then started testing. Rather more silly little bugs had crept in than I was expecting. Especially poor results with the Firefox + SVG build... it really doesn't look likely ...

An infectious book meme (Or at least, I'm *told* it's infectious...)

"To create multiple renderings with different schemes using the same view, create several identical views with different names."

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look ...

Using the old hardware (Second sound-card just for mythbackend...)

Had another "tinny" recording last night, and am getting tired of having no music while I work, so decided to get the old SBLive installed to act as the back-end's card so that (hopefully) the front-end will let me play music while the back-end is recording (without karking up the recording).

Spent way too long ...

Food would be useful (Cookies and crackers and M&Ms don't quite make a balanced diet...)

Haven't yet been out to buy supplies, so we've been ploughing through garbage food around here. Rosey bought 4 bags of M&Ms. I finished off a few score cookies. Not good when you don't get enough exercise to burn off the calories.

Interestingly, as I was composing an email to XXX, I spent rather a ...

Day of learning (Nevow live pages...)

Spent the greatest bulk of the day familiarising myself with the "liveevil" technology from Nevow. It's a javascript + xmlrpc engine allowing one to code a single page application. Going to be trying to use it in Cinemon to produce a number of desirable effects wrt automatically-updating visualisations.

Gentoo fairy visits while I'm out (Bouncing baby KDE 3.4...)

I've had KDE 3.4 built for a long time now, but I hadn't rebooted to start it yet. Since I had the system update itself while I was at PyGTA I figured I'd try the new code (there was at least one KDE library rebuilt during the emerge world).

So far I'm liking it. I ...

Home again, home again (Nappity nap...)

By the time I got home this morning I was pretty much exhausted, so I spent the day on computer maintenance and a nap. Going to have to work almost 1.5 days of time deficit off this week (on top of doing my taxes).

Firefox seems functional again (loads, can display menus and dialogues). Yay! ...

Oh, another idea for assistive technology (Embed RFID chips in all road signs...)

Along the lines of the textual interface client for the blind...

If you've got this little machine working away for you, why not add a very powerful RFID reader. Add RFID tags to every new street and construction sign that have an ID and a typecode describing the message on the sign.

In the initial ...

Assistance for the blind (Universal bluetooth interfaces...)

Just reading a Wired News article on the need for assistive technologies. Here's a thought:

Define a protocol using bluetooth, or some other proximity-based system, such that a "personal client" device can signal to nearby machines that it requires textual interaction (thinking here primarily of displays for the blind). The machines have a very cheap ...
